Dasho Dr.Karma Ura (who studied in St. Stephen’s Delhi, Oxford University, Edinburgh University, Nagoya University) is the president of Centre for Bhutan & GNH Studies, Bhutan an institute dedicated to promoting His Majesty the Fourth King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck’s globally influential development philosophy of Gross National Happiness and conducting multidisciplinary research about the culture and history of Bhutan and policy studies.
His career has spanned interest in development goals, statistics and indicators, and their policy applications, and Buddhist literature, fine arts and philosophy.
He was bestowed order of Druk Khorlo (Wheel of Dragon Kingdom) by His Majesty the King for his contributions to literature and fine arts.
The Govt of India awarded him the Vaisakh Samman Prahasti Patra for 2020 in recognition of his scholarship and fine arts in Buddhism.
His latest, two volumes on Bhutan will be published this year by Oxford University Press.
He is an advisory member of World Happiness Report, the Wellbeing Centre of Oxford University, and the School of Wellbeing, Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok.
